Episode 6 | That's the Girl: Epsie Elmer, God, Mary Kay, and Basketball
Mary Kay mogul Epsie Elmer lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She joined Mary Kay on a whim more than 30 years ago and hasn't looked back. Born in Texas, she spent her formative years in Arkansas, where she was a star player on the school basketball team. (Wait until you hear what happens when her dad told her she couldn't play her senior year.)
A self-proclaimed "rebel" Texan from Arkansas, Epsie landed in Avila, Indiana, at age 17 after 18 hours on a Greyhound bus, determined to seek a new life. She arrived the same year the real-life story behind the movie Hoosiers was unfolding. Perfect for this basketball addict.
She dated, married, had two children, divorced, had careers in banking and IT, remarried, blended families, and started selling skincare. Along the way, she overcame a lifelong stutter, got baptized in her 80s, and bicycled thousands of miles. In recent years, she's become the caregiver for her husband. She talks to us about what that means and how she decided to put him in a nursing home.
Finally, she shares her tips for how to take care of your skin. Enjoy!
