Episode 1 | Chuck Leach and the TFE
For our inaugural episode, Story of My Life talked to Chuck Leach about coming out at 80 years old. We couldn't have asked for a nicer, more honest first guest. Listen here, tell your friends, and please subscribe on your favorite podcaster.
Mr. Leach was born in 1934 in Pampa, Texas. He served in the Air Force, went to Baptist seminary, had a loving, decades-long marriage, and helped raise three children. He still works as a therapist, attends church regularly, and meets with his writing group — which he's been a part of for about 40 years — weekly.
He realized in 2015 that he's gay.
"A number of people have been congratulatory because I have for the first time ever in my [pause] in my decades, for the first time, I have been exuberant. I didn’t know that I didn’t know what exuberance was. And exhilaration is such a strange experience, but it’s wonderful. It’s so good finally to be at home in my skin and feel like I belong to me. I’ve never had that experience before."
